Aim of SOPHYWA

The symposium was organised in honour of the retirement of Prof. Ferdinand Kastanek to reflect the history, present and future of basic and applied research areas in rural water management. To understand and describe soil-water-plant-atmosphere interrelations the knowledge of dynamic processes in the unsaturated zone is a prerequisite.

Finally these reflections lead to a comprehensive outwork of future research challenges.
